The retail industry in Dubai is definitely one of the most dynamic industries. The kind of retail variety and concepts that Dubai has to offer is really unique and puts Dubai on the world retail map.
With the innumerable malls and the enormous space dedicated to shopping and retail, it gets difficult for customers to zero in on one mall/store to visit. The variety in choice also adds to the competition within stores and that leads to the dynamism. This is a consumer's paradise as each retail concept is trying to out-do the other.
With the current economic climate, it is not surprising that value fashion & value with every sort of retail concept is what is thriving. This means that every kind of retail concept, be it fashion, electronics, furniture, household items etc, have to offer value in order to gain and retain customers. People are spending wisely these days and every penny counts. Gone are the days of high spends just for brand name. Keeping in mind the consumer mind-set in today's times, Dubai has stepped up to the plate and every retail concept is trying to offer "bigger, better and more" value. This has kept the industry on its toes and 2009 & 2010 have seen innumerous short-term marketing strategies and tactical campaigns all designed to provide value additions to consumers.
With Dubai constantly striving to make the "world's biggest mall" and "providing best entertainment within malls" and the many malls coming up, it's no wonder Dubai is one of the shopping capital's of the world.
As a consumer, I think there is no better place to shop. Name the brand and you can find it here. Name your price and you will find what you need to fit your budget. And if you feel like splurging for some "retail therapy", something again can be so easily done. The only one drawback is the magnitude of choice. It really gets hard to decide where to go and the time spent in just going from one store to the next trying to figure out where to buy that Plasma TV from or the one pair of black pumps you have been looking for or that little black dress or that perfect white shirt, is insane. For every product there are a million places you can go and there are a million choices. Sometimes this can be a bit overwhelming and you end up taking forever to buy something.
All in all there is truly no place like Dubai to shop. This is by far the most dynamic and flexible retail markets' and it has and continues to survive the economic conditions. Dubai continues to provide retail solutions like no other.
